Bloomsburg Defeats Millersville in Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG - Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West) scored a game-high 20 points as the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team recorded a 65-50 victory over Millersville University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match-up on Saturday afternoon.
Millersville jumped out to an early four-point lead at the 15-minute mark, but Kelly Burkhart (Sayre/Athens) hit two straight three-pointers en route to an 8-0 run that put the Huskies on top, 12-8 with just under 12 minutes to play.
Excellent free-throw shooting kept Bloomsburg in the lead for the rest of the first half, as the Huskies shot 90% (10-11) from the foul line, including Kauczka going a perfect eight for eight. Two of Kauczka's 10 first-half points gave the Huskies a 34-38 lead going into the locker room.
In the second half, the Marauder's battled back to cut the Bloomsburg lead to 43-42 on a jumper by Jayeneca Bailey with 11 minutes to play in the game. Burkhart again answered back scoring the next five points, while Kauczka hit a free-throw to put Bloomsburg on top 49-42 at the seven minute mark.
Millersville cut the lead to 55-50 on a lay-up by NaTasha Howard with just over two-minutes to play, but the Huskies ended the game with a 10-0 run to seal the 65-50 victory.
The Marauder's were led in scoring by Ashley Romanoski's 14 points while Jamika Rehm added 12.
Kauczka's 20 points led the Huskies while Burkhart finished with 17 including hitting five of nine from behind the three-point line. Gabe Miskinis (Lewistown/Lewistown) added nine points and Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) pulled down nine rebounds to pace Bloomsburg.
The Huskies improve to 5-15 on the season including 2-4 in the PSAC East while Millersville drops to 9-12, 3-3 PSAC East.
Bloomsburg will host East Stroudsburg on Monday night at 5:30.
